Why is raspberry leaf tea a concern in pregnancy?

Raspberry leaf is believed to stimulate the uterus, which is why it's traditionally taken only in late pregnancy to 'prepare' for labour. Because of this effect, it should be avoided in the first and second trimesters, and anyone with pregnancy complications, a planned caesarean or a previous premature labour should avoid it altogether. Always talk to your midwife before starting it.

You can also check the calorie content of raspberry leaf tea alongside its safety information. Also check medication safety during pregnancy if you're managing any conditions.

The exception

If your midwife agrees, it's typically introduced gradually from around 32 weeks.
