Why is raw cake batter a concern in pregnancy?

Raw cake batter and cookie dough contain raw egg and raw flour. The egg is only low-risk if British Lion stamped; raw flour can very occasionally carry E. coli regardless of the eggs. A taste made with Lion eggs is generally considered fine, but as a habit raw batter is best avoided while pregnant.

You can also check the calorie content of raw cake batter alongside its safety information. Also check medication safety during pregnancy if you're managing any conditions.

The exception

The baked cake is always safe — baking kills anything of concern.
